Within the 5S concept, visual devices such as red tags, floor marking tapes, shadow boards, and "home address" labels are used to ensure that there is a place for everything and everything is in its place.

Sorting and organizing provides little lasting benefit unless visual mechanisms are put in place to maintain and sustain visual organization after the 5S event.
